Tyler Kessel Receives 2024 FACT2 Excellence Award

Dr. Tyler Kessel, Hudson Valley Community College’s Dean of the School of Business and Liberal Arts, was awarded the 2024 FACT2 Excellence in Administrative Leadership Award by the State University of New York (SUNY).

SUNY’s FACT2 Excellence in Administrative Leadership Award acknowledges leaders who facilitate the use of technology by faculty and professional staff to create, enhance, or expand a service, program, or activity that advances student success. Recipients of this award demonstrate significant and positive leadership by promoting innovation in programmatic offerings and related academic endeavors and by investments that inspire culture change.

Dr. Kessel oversees four academic departments at the college: English, Foreign Languages and ESL; Business and Criminal Justice; Fine Arts, Theatre Arts, and Digital Media; and Education and Social Sciences. Among his many contributions to the school, in the fall 2023 semester Dr. Kessel led a campus workshop on Artificial Intelligence for faculty and staff titled “Teaching in a World of AI” and spearheaded changes to the college’s Code of Conduct for Academic Ethics.

“I’m grateful that SUNY has honored Dr. Kessel with the prestigious FACT2 Excellence Award which recognizes his passion for education and affinity for engaging technology and innovative thinking to benefit effective teaching and learning,” said President Roger Ramsammy. “Leaders like Dr. Kessel are forward thinking and truly inspire positive change for our students, faculty and staff. Congratulations to Dr. Kessel and all of this year’s award recipients.”

FACT2 Excellence Award recipients will participate in an awards ceremony at the annual Conference on Instruction and Technology (CIT) on May 21-24, 2024, at the University at Buffalo.
